A little about us...

Welcome to St. Peter’s!  Our Village is a busy hub for surrounding communities. Don't be fooled by its small size; St. Peter's is one of North America's oldest European establishments and it bustles with activity all year long.

The area now known as St. Peter’s was first inhabited by the Mi'kmaq First Nation who used the waterways as canoe portage routes between the Atlantic Ocean and Bras d'Or Lake. The land was then used by the Portuguese as a trading and fishing post named Santo Pedro in the 16th century before the French took possession in the 1630s and named it Saint-Pierre.

As the commercial center of Richmond County, St. Peter’s has much to offer. Accommodations, entertainment, camping, restaurants, coffee shops, grocery store, gift and craft shops, pharmacies, banks, instant tellers, liquor store, service stations, museums, recreational facilities, and a first-rate marina.

A stay in St. Peter's puts you within easy access of both the Bras d’Or Lake Scenic Drive and the Fleur-de-Lis Trail as well as any number of beautiful sites within easy walking distance from the downtown core.

Visit a place that feels like home.

While Canadians are known the world over for their hospitality and friendliness, there is something special about Nova Scotia and the people who reside there. And within Nova Scotia, it's our biased opinion that Cape Breton is the culmination of these great qualities.

Our calendar is PACKED with activities that bring together locals and tourists alike. Kitchenfest, Lobsterfest, Nicholas Denys Days, Swim the Canal, Pirate Days, Celtic Colours, and The Festival of Trees are just a few of the events that celebrate our village, its people, and its history.

Take off your shoes, and stay awhile.

St. Peter’s is a natural hub from which to enjoy the rest of the beautiful island. From the Canso Causeway to Saint Margaret Village, Cape Breton will welcome you. And, from Port Hood to Louisbourg, Cape Breton will dazzle you.

A stay in St. Peter's puts you within walking distance or a short drive away from some unique Cape Breton attractions and within easy reach of many traditions and cultures. Natural driving loops through the area provide a wonderful way to see the sites. And if water is what you came for, you'll find ample access to the ocean, the stunning Bras D'Or Lakes, and more.

If you're feeling ambitious, a person could safely drive the whole island in a day... but personally, we think it’s best savored and broken into a few smaller trips.

Whatever your plans, we'd love to have you.

Don't let the vacation end.

The people of St. Peter's know there is something special about our little village. But it's a secret we're willing to share.

Beautiful scenery, great amenities, friendly neighbours, year-round activities, and a true sense of community create something very special in our corner of the island.
